Traditional Belly Binding

Belly binding is a traditional postpartum healing practice seen in cultures around the world. My practice of belly binding utilizes vendas. They are large elastic bandages from Mexico made in a light gauze-like material. It is most beneficial to begin wearing the venda within the first 3 weeks postpartum. It can be worn starting as early as 24 hours postpartum, as long as the mother’s vitals are stable.

This practice offers profound physical and energetic support, by:

  • Providing stability and security to the body

  • Relieving aches and pains

  • Maintaining uterine warmth

  • Supporting the pelvic floor and bladder

  • Protecting a cesarean incision

  • Gently guiding the organs back to their pre-pregnancy places.

The initial session includes:

  • An opening and closing plática (heart-to-heart talk)

  • Education about proper belly binding and faja wearing

  • Partner instruction

  • Gentle abdominal sobada and bodywork

  • 3 vendas to keep

  • Postpartum herbal tea to conclude the session

Exchange: $150 | Follow-up visits: $80

Ceremonial Postpartum Cerrada

The Ceremonial Postpartum Cerrada (Closing) is a traditional Mesoamerican healing ritual. This ritual supports the closing of a cycle and honors the rite of passage that is motherhood. Cerradas also mirror the experience of returning to the womb, and can help ground the body and spirit onto this physical plane.

This session can be received starting at 6 weeks postpartum. It lasts about 2 hours and includes the following:

  • Opening and closing plática: heart-to-heart talk

  • Limpia: spiritual cleansing with smoke or herbs

  • Abdominal Sobada: abdominal organ massage

  • Rebozo Manteada: sifting, rocking, and stretching of the body with traditional Mexican scarves

  • Cerrada: Full wrapping of the body with rebozos

  • Herbal tea to conclude the session

Exchange: $200

Childcare can also extend to siblings, and will reflect a higher hourly rate. During naps or quiet time, I’ll help with light housework, organization, and meal prepping, as time and space allows. Daytime or overnight care available.
